On the Road

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Well folks we are one week into our month long tour!

You can follow our progress through video blogs on my facebook page!

First off, let me say THANK YOU to the amazing people that helped me reach my kickstarter fundraising goal! It’s because of you that I’m purchasing a ticket to Copenhagen, returning home from the east coast in June, and releasing a fresh, glossy CD!

The Tour…

On May 1st we packed up the car and had a marathon driving session through to Austin. Freakishly cold weather cancelled our first outdoor gig but the skies cleared for a beautiful Pecan Street Festival show.

Sunday night we went to an open mic at BB Rover’s where we met comedic songwriter Jon Davenport who declared, “you can be a drummer and a grown up, but you can’t be both.” Monday night we went to a beautiful outdoor open mic at House Wine. Over a bottle of wine, we sang to a packed patio and listened to a wealth of talented performers.

Along the way we stopped to see some petroglyphs in Arizona, jumped on backyard trampolines with old friends, did a little disc golfing, ate delicious burgers, and felt the warm hospitality of our Texas friends.

Coming up…

Wednesday May 8th – House Concert, Houston TX 8-10pm

Thursday May 9th – Neutral Ground Coffeehouse, New Orleans LA 10pm

Click the calendar page for details and more dates

Friends and Places…

We are meeting lots of good musicians and finding neat places along the way. Here’s a sampling to check out…

Ryan E. Morris, a great songwriter with a new EP –

Wolvie, a psychedelic rock band with new EP out on vinyl –

Jon Davenport, a comedic songwriter –

Cherrywood Coffeehouse for delicious food –

House Wine for a pleasant outdoor open mic –

And away we go!

The Little Women with New Beginnings

Thursday, March 14th, 2013
Me, Kaye and Natalie

The last few years I’ve had the great joy to be in a band called The Little Women With Big Guitars.

But in a couple of weeks, Kaye Reznick, the founder of our band, will move to Austin and Natalie Wood will have her first child.

Naturally our little band is taking a fairly permanent hiatus.

I am incredibly excited for them! I know they’ll do great! But I admit – I’m super bummed that our era as a band is coming to a close.

I first met Kaye at the Open Mic at Suzy’s Bar & Grill in Hermosa Beach. I heard her play incredible folk songs with the most interesting lyrics woven together that told fables of her times in LA. The strong, low tone of her voice commanded attention in that busy place.

I was just getting back into music again after a long hiatus. I barely spoke into the microphone on that open mic stage but afterwards Kaye came over to ask if I’d like to join a new project she was starting. She saw a lot more potential in me than I did.

Flyer for The TRIP

We had lots of fun gigs with a showcase of talented musicians like Carrie Wade, Davie Gayle, and Nicolette Aubourg, and Anna Bell. We even added a Few Good Men to the lineup in Mike Holmes, Russell Somers, Kapali Long, and David Abrams.

Some months later, at Suzy’s Open mic, Kaye met Natalie in much the same way as she met me. Natalie, a sweet, clear soprano that sang catchy and angst filled songs that continued to play in my head for days and days.

Songsalive! at Hallenbecks

The three of us met to rehearse and after lots of singing and laughter, we just never stopped making plans to play music together. It was all so organic and joyful.

As a group we’ve played lots of local shows from The Lighthouse in Hermosa to Hallenbeck’s in North Hollywood. Viento y Agua in Long Beach to the Citadel Outlets and the El Segundo Car Show.

El Segundo Car Show

We even made a trip to Austin to play at the Pecan Street Festival, which even though it got rained out, was still a great trip together filled with laughter and shows at Austin Java, Kava Bar, and The Carousel Lounge.

Kava Bar in Austin

Our final goodbye show was this past Monday night at our beloved Suzy’s Bar & Grill in Hermosa Beach. The place where it all started. Where we first met each other and the other great friends and musicians that have supported us wholeheartedly.

I’m going to miss this chapter.

Hello 2013!

Monday, January 28th, 2013

I just got back from an invigorating Yoga class so I am full of bright happy thoughts and urgent fingertips.

Great News!

Some of you may know that last years goal of recording an album has spilled into 2013, as recording is not a simple and quick process. Well…

Over the weekend we recorded four drum tracks and are prepared to do the rest over the next couple of weeks!!

Next up, we just need put in some guitars, bass, vocals, and whatever other fun instruments we have laying around.

More Cow Bell!

Great New Shows!

I’ve been holding off on booking shows until the record is finished but I do have two upcoming with the lovely Little Women on Feb 22nd at Mare’ka Live in Studio City and March 2nd at Viento y Agua in Long Beach.

I’m also booking house concerts starting in March. Please contact me if you’re interested in hosting one!

Great New Songs!

A couple of weeks ago I had the great joy of attending Brett Perkins’ Listening Room Retreats. Picture 15 songwriters in a big open room in the middle of the Sequoias creating a new song each day with a different partner. It was beyond fantastic. I even wrote a pop song – a happy little yippity skippity pop song – it was so exciting!

As for the Jimmy Kimmel contest, I won’t hear anything until March. And I’ll only hear something if I’m chosen as a finalist. But, I did sign up to audition for The Voice this Saturday, so, that could be fun.

Because of the holidays and the songwriting retreat and whatnot, I’ve slacked on the weekly youtube videos. Rest assured that they will return, so do continue to send requests.

Peace and love groovy people

After a couple days of phenomenal weather, it’s time to stay inside for a few and write some words and post some pictures.

Upcoming Shows!

Friday, May 11th from 8pm-11pm – Live At The Lounge, Hermosa Beach $14

Really cool showcase coming up at a place I’ve been wanting to play since I moved to the beach. It’s a full showcase of songwriters so the come early and stay a while. Tickets will very likely sell out! Buy Tickets HERE!

Saturday, May 19th from 12pm-8pm – Dylanfest, El Segundo $25

I get to play Dylanfest!!! I heart Bob Dylan and I’m so excited to be included to play in this long running festival!  There is food, fun, prizes and over 60 musicians playing Dylan’s best songs. I’ll be playing “A Simple Twist of Fate” around 12noon. I’m selling tickets for $25 so message me to buy them!

Recap Time!

The OC Songsalive Showcase in Westminster with Kaye Reznick was set in Sam Ash. It was such a blast to play for a full crowd and shoppers passing by. Thanks to Rod O’Riley for putting on a great showcase!

The Viper Room! It was so exciting to play there! The lounge downstairs is this intimate room with dark moody lighting – my favorite backdrop to play in. I know it’s hard to get out to Hollywood so thanks so much for everyone who made it out! Posted a new Love Song from the show on YouTube.

Suzy and The Whiskey Dogs made a super fun Southbay appearance of the year opening for our good friends Barley Legal at Kegs bar in Redondo Beach. We lived up to our Whiskey Dog name and had an absolute blast playing to a jam packed house. I’m still trying to edit the videos just right and when they’re ready I’ll surely post them.

The Little Women With Big Guitars project is a group comprised of Kaye Reznick and Natalie Wood, and sometimes gents that pop in. This past Monday we had great fun at the historic Lighthouse on the Hermosa Beach Pier. Mel Harker runs a local musician showcase every Monday during happy hour and he let us take over the whole night. The ladies were amazing! You can check out our cover of Angel From Montgomery HERE.

Thanks for all the fun and support this past month!
